MechWarrior Online is a forthcoming action simulation game which is totally free to play. The game is currently under development by Piranha Games. MechWarrior will be created for the Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Xbox 360 platforms.
One day in the real world is equivalent to one day in this real time game. For example January 1, 2012 is equal to January 1, 3049. Players assume the role of leading BattleMechs, and can line up themselves with one of the Great Houses, build their own Mercenary Corporation, or they can play as a separate wolf.
According to recently received information the game will offer some online persistency where players will be able to battle in order to gain control of border planets in the game universe. While players can benefit from several items in the game which they can buy with money, each item that will offer players a strategic advantage and they can earn it by playing the game.
MechWarrior Online is scheduled to be released in second half on 2012 on PC. The game has been set in the year 3049 and Piranha Games is promising to give players with a massive amount of mech customization, in addition to weapons and armor "with endless options" for upgrading.
MechWarrior is making use of top tier graphics engines like CryEngine3 and capable to level it up to "AAA" status. If the game becomes successful then it can move up to "premium" F2P as well.
